Igboh-Etche road to be fixed soon- Amaechi assures

…Commends Wike over Chokocho-Igbodo road flag-off

The people of Igboh kingdom and its environs in Etche local government area of Rivers State will soon heave a sigh of relief as their monarch, Dr. Samuel Ndiwe Amaechi, Onye-Ishi Agwuru, Igboh kingdom has revealed that palliative works will soon commence on the dilapidated portions of the Igboh-Etche roads.

Amaechi who dropped the hint in a chat with newsmen in his palac said failed portions of the Igboh-Etche road which will be reconstructed by International Oil Companies (IOCs) operating in the area, will reduce the hardship being experienced by his people and other users of the roads.

The monarch however, called on companies operating in the area to take advantage of the dry season to commence work on the road.

“The governor constructed the Igboh-Etche road four (4) years ago, it’s not his fault that it’s bad again. As you know, that is also a federal road. When he wanted to fix the road, the Federal Road Maintenance Agency FERMA) came in to sabotage his efforts, but that not withstanding, he went ahead to do the road.

“The Igboh Council of Traditional Rulers, we have tried to bring in the IOCs operating within the area because Igbo kingdom and Etche is endowed with natural resources.

“We have been able to discuss with the Heir Holding Oil and Gas, we have also asked TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited, they have come to look at the road and scooped it. So, if they maintain their promise, very soon reconstruction of the Igboh-Etche road will kick-off early next year”.

Amaechi also used the medium to thank Governor Nyesom Wike over the flag-off of the 27.1km Chokocho-Igbodo road on Monday.

He said with the recent flag-off of the Chokocho-Igbodo road which is also a federal road and citing of other signature projects in Etche local government area, the governor is wiping away tears from the eyes of Etche people.

He said the Etche people would continue to give the governor all necessary support to succeed and see out his tenure in office.

“We thank God for giving us a governor who is a father, a brother and a friend to Rivers State and Etche in particular.

The Chokocho-Igbodo road is not the first project he is doing, he has done so many projects in Etche and this is very unique because it is at the center of Etche.

“The Chokocho-Igbodo road leads Etche to Imo State. It’s a federal road, but he took it upon himself to construct it because of the urgency and the need to do it.

“We thank God for giving us a visionary governor and the only thing we, the Etche people owe him is to give him our support and put into prayers that God grant him his desire”, he said
