HYPPADEC decries non-remittance of 10 percent IGR by power companies

The Hydro Electric Power Producing Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has decried the non-remittance of 10 percent Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, by power generating companies within the power producing states.

The states include Niger, Nassarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Plateau and Benue.

The Managing Director of HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, stated this after its 5th Governing Council meeting in Minna, the Niger State capital, said since the inception of the commission about a year ago, the companies were yet to remit 10 percent of their IGR in line with the 2013 Act.

Yelwa stated that currently the commission’s sole source of revenue is from the 40 percentage national budget funding from the Federal Government.

He stated that “this year the Commission will focus on the resettlement projects in Muregi, Ketso and communities in Shiroro local government of Niger state and others in Kogi State. We will also focus in the provision of portable water to most displaced communities like New Bussa in Borgu council”.

Also, the chairman governing council, Hon. Joseph Terfa Ityav, assured that 2023 will be more eventful as the commission will embark on activities and projects in the affected states.

Terfa also announced the flag off of its various skills acquisition program for March targeted at least 5,000 of youths for the duration of six months across the six states of the commission.
