2023: We’re on course, Abe tells supporters

… Says Buhari has not anointed anyone to succeed him

By: Felix Ikpotor

Immediate past representative of the Rivers South East, Senator Magnus Ngei  Abe has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State especially his supporters not to worry about the happenings in the party in the last few days occasioned by the outcome of the just concluded national convention of the party.

Abe who stated this in Port Harcourt while addressing party supporters also asserted that President Mohammadu Buhari has not anointed anyone to be his successor.

He described the ongoing jubilations in some sections of the party as ‘premature ejaculation’.

The former lawmaker called on party faithful to remain steadfast and continue to mobilize for the party.

“We have passed this road several times and each time there is a challenge in the party in Rivers State, it’s either there is over jubilation on one side and we have been through that circle several times and nothing has changed. Why has nothing changed? Because it’s not over.  We did not assemble here to struggle for South South Vice Chairman. The problem in APC Rivers State is not because of South South Vice Chairman.

“When I came back here and I saw the level of jubilation and celebration that was going on in the state over the fact that they say they defeated Worgu Boms at the convention, I thought they said Worgu Boms was not a member of the party, I thought they said he would not contest and someone who is not a member and you allow him to contest? There is a word I want to use, it’s called premature ejaculation. When you get up and make yourself very happy and excited when nothing has happened, when you have done nothing, it’s called premature ejaculation, that’s exactly what is happening in the All Progressives Congress, APC,  here in Rivers State.

Nothing has happened and people are already making themselves happy,” he said.

He added: “They are going around telling people that President Muhammadu Buhari has  appointed a successor. I’m a member of the APC and I want to tell you people that I’m not aware that Buhari has appointed anybody to be president and that’s not the plan of this party. The plan of the party is that members would be able to choose who would be flag-bearer of our party and those who are serious are already furnishing their democratic credentials, they are going around looking for support and talking to party members, they are reaching out to leaders, they are making their case, they are showcasing their contributions to the party, people who brought votes, who organized their people to bring votes and it’s on those votes that this party is built. You cannot be a person who didn’t bring votes, you’re not even organizing to be able to bring votes but you’re organizing with force to be the presidential candidate of the party, how will you be?

He assured the party faithful of success in the coming election.

“Let me say clearly to you people that we are very much on course. This whole thing you’re seeing in the country and in Rivers State, within the next four months everybody will know what’s going to happen in Nigeria and everybody should be prepared. So don’t be worried, don’t be deceived by all those things you’re seeing here.

So lets us continue to do what we were doing. What we were doing is to mobilise Rivers people for this party, continue to reach out to them. We will activate our mobilisation and contacts committee across the local government areas of the state and go back to work, don’t sit down to lament.

Abe  urged all those with ambition to contest elections to start early to mobilize their people.

On the outcome of the party’s national convention, Abe urged those who emerged to work for the interest of the party.
