Alleged fraud: Police arraigns school principal in Rivers over collection of WAEC fees

Principal of Community Secondary School, Okuru-Ama, in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State , Pastor Sylvanus Toby, has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court on two counts of conspiracy and criminality.

Pastor Toby and the Community Development Committee Chairman of the Okuru-Ama, Mr. Siyeofori Godspower, and others now at large, are alleged to have beaten up a teacher of the school, Blessing Oba, over her comment on

fees being paid by students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

The two defendants are alleged to have also threatened to kill the claimant after collecting her mobile phone worth N82,000, her ATM card, and her wallet valued at N5000.

Chief Magistrate, Amadi Nna, after listening to the arguments of the lawyers to the prosecution and defense teams granted the accused bail with the sum of N300,000.

According to the charge sheet, the pastor is alleged to have hired the CDC Chairman and others to beat up the teacher after she complained about the WAEC fees being collected by the principal, despite the state government’s warnings on the demand for WAEC fees from candidates.

However, the state ministry of education was yet to react to the report.
