The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disqualified a total of 58 National and State Assembly aspirants of the party.

Reason for their disqualification according to the result sheet published by the screening committee ranges from non-payment of party membership fees, tax clearance, discrepancies in names and dates of birth amongst others.

A breakdown shows that a total number of 106 aspirants bought forms to contest the national and state assembly primaries of the party.

Further breakdown shows that 37 persons bought forms for National Assembly while 16 were cleared.

Also, 69 persons bought forms for State Assembly seats while only 32 were cleared to contest the party primaries.

Meanwhile, an aspirant for Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency under the platform of the party, Comrade Legborsi Yamaabana has appealed his disqualification from participating in the primary elections  by the screening committee.

Yamaabana who is also the President-General of Ogoni Youth Federation expressed hope that his disqualification by the screening committee would be reversed by the appeals committee of the party.

He said: ” I have duely appealed my erroneous non-clearance to participate in the primary elections of our great party for House of Representatives, Khana/ Gokana Federal Constituency by the screening committee of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party”. “For the records, I complied and resubmitted all relevant documents in accordance with the electoral guidelines of our party and ofcourse in accordance with the Electoral Act”.

“I’m confident that the appeals panel which is made up of noble men and women will meticulously reveal the decision of the screening committee, set same aside and clear me to participate in the forthcoming primary elections”.

He called on his supporters to remain peaceful as he awaits the decision of the appeals panel.
