Tonye Cole receives hundreds of defectors from PDP in Rivers

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, at the weekend, received hundreds of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  into her fold during a Permanent Voters Card sensitization tour of Wards 1 and 2 in Adanta, Isiokpo, Ikwerre local council of the state.

Over 300 members of the PDP across Wards 1and 2 in Isiokpo, under the aegis of Isiokpo Progressive Movement, defected to the APC as they declared total support for the party and its quest to wrestle power from the PDP in Rivers State come 2023.

Notable among the defectors were Hon. Christian Nwachijem, Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman of Ikwerre LGA and Charles Madume, Personal Assistant to PDP Ward 2 Leader amongst other PDP Ward and Unit officers.

Receiving the defectors, the State Party Chairman, Chief Emeka Beke, represented by the State Legal Adviser, Barr. Zubi Dike commended them for identifying with the party.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors,  Christian Nwachijem said their decision to join the APC was inspired by the need to follow a political leader who is at home with his people, identifies with and gives them a sense of belonging.

He said that the PDP has lost touch with the people at the grassroots and does not have the required leadership to drive the kind of politics that puts the interest of the people first.

Speaking at the event, Arc. Tonye Cole, governorship candidate of the party lauded the courage and resolve of the defectors to jilt the PDP and embrace the APC and its pro-people ideology.

He added that the APC in Rivers State is determined to restore the State to the path of glory, prosperity and peace. He assured them of his readiness to work with them to actualize the change that Rivers people have hungered for in the last 7 years.

The Rivers APC governorship candidate urged them to mobilize their families and friend to collect their PVCs and afford themselves the opportunity to vote at the polls noting that their votes will count.
