Tension in Rundele as ex-OSPAC Commander kills youth leader

There is palpable fear in Rundele Clan, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State over the killing of the youth leader of Mgbuolua community, Mr. Okechukwu Eleonu by former OSPAC Commander in the area, Mr. Oguchika Egbo.

Mr. Okechukwu Eleonu was on last Saturday shot dead by Mr. Oguchika Egbo who had accused him of working as a police informant against him, and that he was one of those who gave a tip-off that led to the destruction of his illegal bunkering site in the area.

Egbo who was allegedly stripped of his position as the Rundele OSPAC Commander due to his arrogance, according to a community source has also vowed to kill the younger brother of his victim, Mr. Zeruwa Eleonu.

Widow of the late youth leader, Mary Eleonu and the younger brother, Victor Eleonu are now crying out for justice, calling on the Rivers State Commissioner of Police to ensure the arrest and prosecution of the former OSPAC Commander.

The widow, a mother of three described the death of her husband as painful and unbearable.

Meanwhile, concerned Indigenes of Rundele clan who spoke on condition of anonymity has called on the Rivers State Government, the State Commissioner of Police, and other security agencies to investigate the unlawful killing of the community youth leader.

Describing the incident as unacceptable, they called on the Paramount Ruler of Rundele clan, HRH, Barr. Damian Ejiowhor, Rundele Elites and other stakeholders in the area to rise up, stop the excesses  of the former OSPAC leader and ensure he is prosecuted for unlawful killing of the youth leader.

“We are surprised that four days after, he is still moving freely in the community. We learnt that he even allegedly threatened to kill all the policemen that came after him, and make their wives widows and they left him.

“We are using this medium to call on the Commissioner of Police, Emohua Council Chairman and the leadership of Rundele clan to stop Mr. Oguchika Egbo now before things go out of hands.”

Confirming the incident, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Grace Iringe-Koko said they are working to ensure the trigger-happy former OSPAC Commander is arrested  and made to face the law.
