Rivers State gets new Commissioner of Police

Rivers State Police Command now has a new commissioner. He is Okon Effiong.

The new Commissioner of Police, was unveiled yesterday at the Command’s headquarters in Port Harcourt during a chat with newsmen.

Speaking at the briefing, Okon Effiong stated that human rights abuse will not be tolerated under his watch and called on residents to report any form of abuse by any officer.

Effiong said: ‘We are quite aware that we are already in the season of elections and campaigns have started. The new electoral law does not give room for thuggery and violence. Therefore, we will do everything possible to ensure that right from the time of campaigns violence and thuggery are eliminated. People should be able to come out freely and discharge their responsibility as it pertains to those who would govern them.’

The Commissioner who said that the command will take proactive measure in tackling insecurity enjoined criminals to desist from their nefarious acts or face the full weight of the law.

He promised to run an open door policy with utmost professionalism.
