Bonny chairman marks one year in office with projects inauguration

Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in  Rivers State, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, has said the party is proud of the harvest of projects, and empowerment programmes being driven by the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Dame  Anengi Barasua Claude-Wilcox , encouraging her to sustain the tempo of touching lives at the grassroots as it summarises what the PDP stands for.

Akawor  stated this during the phase two of the flag off of projects and empowerment programmes at the Industrial Unit Field, Bonny.

Speaking through the State Party Secretary, Dr Benebo George, Akawor  added that the Bonny Local Government Housing Unit which he earlier performed the groundbreaking ceremony for was a bold step towards answering to the concerns of senior government officials for improved output in governance.

Flagging off the Free School Buses, the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Professor Prince Chinedu Nmom, who had earlier laid the foundation for the construction of an administrative complex for the Bonny Integrated Recruitment Centre, BIRC, said the LGA Boss had done well in encouraging primary education which is the most important aspect of schooling, adding that the free school buses will take off the cost of transportation from parents, save the children from road hazards and stimulate the appetite for education in them.

Delivering her remarks, the Bonny Local Government Chairman, Dame Anengi Barasua Claud-Wilcox , said the event was intended to highlight her scorecard in the last one year and hint on the activities of the council  in the next phase of her administration.

She admitted that the government may not have completely attained the expectations of the people, but with the prayers, synergy, support, and contributions of all stakeholders, Bonny would become the tourism and investment capital of Nigeria in no distant time.

On his part, Leader of  PDP in Bonny LGA and former Commissioner for Local Government Affairs in Rivers State, Amaopusenibo Rodaford Opuwari Longjohn said the council boss has exceeded his expectations, promising to stand by her  in the journey to progress.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of 18 Seater Hiace Buses to the Bonny Legislative Assembly, the Bonny Employment Monitoring Committee and the Protocol/Media Unit of the Government. Further, there was unveiling of Fleet of mini-buses as empowerment to residents for commercial transportation in Bonny, and the presentation of award to institutions and individuals who supported the government in the last one year.
