Executive Order 22: Call Wike to order, Labour Party tells INEC, Police

By: Felix Ikpotor

South South Vice Chairman of the Labour Party, Prince Reuben Favour has called the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the State Commissioner of Police to call Governors Nyesom Wike to order concerning his executive orders to avoid anarchy in the state.

He pointed out that because no one challenged him when he gave Executive Order 21 that’s why he went ahead to give another order.

“He’s doing that because Sim Fubara is not accepted by anybody and he’s going to fail that’s why Wike is jittery. In 2015 there was a governor in Rivers State and Wike was fighting to be governor and nobody put out this kind of stringent and draconian law, it’s unfortunate that we have a governor that’s ready to sink down Rivers State and I’m calling on security agents and INEC to call him to order because what he is calling for is anarchy in this state, Wike is looking for a way that this state will be referred to once more as Rivers of blood because he knows his orders can’t be obeyed,” he stated.

Favour stated further that an executive order has no bearing in law.

He also took a swipe at Anambra State governor Charles Soludo for his comments against Peter Obi that he won’t win the presidential election.

He described his comments as an act of jealousy.

“It’s just jealousy against the person of Peter Obi. You can’t see an Hausa/ Fulani man castigating his brother openly even the Yorubas can’t do this but it’s only the Igbos that are fond of doing this and people are capitalising on that to undo them. The person of Soludo that we all respect shouldn’t say that and I want to tell him that he will be ashamed when Obi will become president,” he stated.

On his part, the State chairman of the party, Dienye Pepple said the order was aimed at preventing other political parties from campaigning, stressing that the order is meant to obstruct the electoral process.

“This order is meant to restrict us from campaigning, infact the whole thing is just aimed at obstructing the whole process. In other states you don’t see these orders there,” he said.

Continuing Pepple said, ‘first he took all parties to court, now he’s bringing an order that will restrain political parties from campaigning and if we don’t do anything he will give an order that parties must take permission from ministry of information before talking about their parties, so as a party we have asked our legal team to look at those as we plan to challenge it in court,” he stated.
