Abe to prioritise women and girl-child development

By: Felix Ikpotor

Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe has promised to pay more attention to women development if elected in the 2023 governorship polls.

He pointed out that women are key to the development of any nation.

Abe stated this while interacting with various women groups from the various local councils of the state.

“When we walk together, we complement one another, we achieve more, we are more productive and we get results faster, so any society that subjugates or oppresses women or pushes them back is a society that’s pushing itself backward.

“So the first thing I would say  to you the women of Rivers State is that starting from next, year we are going to use both men and women,” he said.

He also promised to provide quality education for girls if elected.

“When we talk about girl-child, it means that it has to do with females. There is no gainsaying the fact that there is actually differences between men and women, and for us to plan effectively for ourselves as a society, we need to understand that as much as possible while we plan for youths, we plan for men and women and the society at large, we need to equally plan for the girl-child.

The women groups that attended the meeting comprised of those from professional bodies, market associations amongst others.
