Rivers govt to shut Accord Party office in P’Harcourt

By: Felix Ikpotor

In keeping with its earlier threat to shutdown campaign offices of political parties located in residential areas by the Rivers State Government via Executive Order 22, the government has threatened to shut down the campaign office of Accord Party in the state.

The threat was contained in a statement addressed to the chairman of the party by the State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Austen Ben Chioma .

According to the statement which was sighted by our correspondent and issued 23rd November, 2022, the government said it observed that the house has been converted from a residential area to a party office without the permission of the government and ordered the occupants to revert to its original use.

The statement also ordered that the party should apply to the ministry for approval for possible permission as the premises shall be sealed-off within the next seven days.

Port Harcourt Spectator recalls that it had earlier published a report on the threat of the Rivers State Government to shutdown party offices of opposition political parties following the signing of Executive Order 22 by Governor Nyesom Wike.
