Ogoni group commends Buhari over appointment of new HYPREP boss

A group known as the Ogoni Development Drive , ODD, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari over the  appointment Prof Nenibarini Zabbey as the Project Coordinator of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, HYPREP,.

ODD in a statement by its convener, Solomon Lenu said the move shows the president’s commitment to the welfare of the people.

He however expressed concern that the incessant change of PC’s might affect the working of the clean-up exercise.

“We thank Mr President, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, for finding another Ogoni son worthy to occupy this auspicious office again, as this is in line with our agitation to localise the management of this very agency to our people whose environment and sources of livelihood has been so degraded by years of corporate malfeasance. This has further demonstrated Mr President’s commitment to the welfare of the Ogoni people. We however hope, that the current spate of incessant change of PC’s and administrators of this agency will cease, so there could be stability and accelerated progress for the delivery of the project’s goals as envisaged”.

Lenu also congratulated the new PC on his appointment and called on Ogonis to support him to succeed.

“ We celebrate with him on his elevation to this new position and assignment. We pray for God’s guidance and wisdom upon him during his tenure. And also pray for him to have a less turbulent time in charge than his immediate predecessor, so he can keep his eyes on the ball. We equally call on all Ogonis home and abroad to rally round him to give him the needed support to make him succeed with the huge task ahead for the benefit of all of us,” he stated.
