Girl Guides installs Rivers Women Affairs Commissioner as Matron

The Nigerian Girl Guides Association, Rivers State Branch has installed the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Roseline Adawari Uranta as a Matron of the body.

 Performing the installation in Port Harcourt, the National Chairman Trefoil Guides of the Association, Dame  Christie Toby said the appointment was in recognition of Uranta’s  position as the State Commissioner for Women Affairs.

Toby who is  the Wife of a former Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Sir Gabriel Toby  said the appointment the commissioner is now a role model for women and girls.

 “By this appointment, Dr Uranta you are now a member of the Association and you are a big model to the girls and young women”.

“Your appointment as a Commissioner in charge of Women Affairs is not a mistake but a divine arrangement to offer leadership to the women of Rivers State,’’ she said.

She  told the Commissioner that by her appointment as a Matron she now have the sole responsibility to be ‘a go between the Wife of the State Governor and the Association.”

Responding, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Roseline Adawari Uranta thanked the association for appointment.

Uranta reiterated her commitment to the association and said she will always throw her support to the association to excel in her programmes and activities .

The Commissioner continued, ” I will on my honour continue to promote virtues that will encourage the girl child and enhance the development of young women in all human endeavours “.

The Commissioner disclosed that the Association would be given a special position  in the Women Development Centre to be commissioned soon to enable members acquired skills to empower them economically.

Earlier in her address, the State Commissioner of the Association, Lady Daba Harry commended  Uranta for accepting to be their Matron and described the gesture as honourable and pleasant.

Harry  said the association is would continue to mould the character and skills of young girls and to nurture them into responsible and empowered citizens in the society.
