Rivers crisis: Yorbana backs Fubara, condemns attack on Ehie

Board of Trustees, BOT,  Chairman of Ogoni Sim Vanguard (OSV), Amb. Marvin Yobana, has condemned the assassination attempt on the life of factional  Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly,  Ehie Edison, and his family.

Yorbana made the condemnation in a statement signed by him and made available to newsmen on November 21, 2023, in Port-Harcourt.

He said: “May I, on behalf of myself and Ogoni Sim Vanguard, condemn the assassination attempt on Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, Speaker, RSHA, and his family.”

He charged security agencies to fish out without those behind the attempt to assassinate the speaker.

“I join other well-meaning Rivers State leaders to call on the Inspector General of Police to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the culprits to book in order to serve as a deterrent to anyone who intends to bring the name of the Nigerian Police to disrepute and cause a breakdown of law and order in Rivers State,” Yorbana stated.

He reaffirmed his support for the governor of Rivers State.

“We reaffirm our total support and commitment to Governor Sim Fubara’s administration to succeed in bringing more developmental dividends to our dear state and continue in the part of progress, unity, and peace that he has chosen.”

He encouraged Edison and other lawmakers to be firm. “We call on the Rt. Hon. Speaker and his colleagues to stand firm on the part of progress, justice, and fairness in carrying out their legislative functions and protecting our democratic rights as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The BOT chairman advised  Rivers people to stand up against oppression and protect constitutional democracy. “We call on all Rivers men and women of goodwill to stand firmly against oppressive forces in our beloved state and protect our constitutional rights to freely elect representatives of our choice both at the executive and legislative arms of government,” he said.

It could be recalled that at about 11 pm on Sunday, November 19, 2023, a group of armed thugs and police officers attached to the CTU B 3 RSV allegedly attacked the private residence of  Edison Ehie, with the later alleging  assassination attempt on his life and family.

However, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Tunji Disu has dismissed such claim, adding that police were only routine patrol in the area.
