Rivers Assembly lawmakers loyal to Wike defects to APC

Twenty seven lawmakers of the faction of Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Speaker of the faction, Martin Amaewhule announced the defection on the floor of the assembly during plenary on Monday.

The defectors cited crisis in PDP as reason for their action.

The defection is coming barely 24 hours after the deputy governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the March 2023 Governorship election, Patricia Ogbonnaya some APC members in Ahoada West yesterday defected to the PDP.

Port Harcourt Spectator reports that the disagreement between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike  had led to the factionalisation of the assembly with two different speakers.
