By: Felix Ikpotor

Management of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH, has refuted reports that it received N60 million from afrobeat super star, Damini Ogulu, also known as Burna Boy as payment for  patients on admission at the hospital.

Recall that the media went awash with reports that the award winning singer who hails from Ahoada West in Rivers State, cleared all medical bills of patients worth over N60 Million when he visited the hospital on June 11, 2024.

Management of UPTH while appreciating the musician for his benevolence in assisting  patients at the hospital during his visit, clarified that the hospital did not receive any direct payments from the artist and his team for settlement of patients’ medical bills.

The hospital in a statement signed by its acting Public Relations Officer, Elebha  Meni, said, “The Management of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital appreciates the Nigerian and Global Music star Burna Boy for his philanthropic gesture towards her patients during his visit to the facility on the 11th of June 2024.

“We commend his benevolence to some patients in our hospital with financial support to help them offset their bills.

“However, contrary to the reports that the bills of all patients on admission in UPTH were paid during the visit, only selected patients received cash gifts or donations from Burna Boy and his team to pay their medical bills.

“The hospital did not receive any direct payments on behalf of patients from the musician and his team for settlement of patient bills.

“We once again commend Burna Boy and his team for supporting this worthy cause of reducing the burden of healthcare costs and providing succour to the needy.”
