By: Felix Ikpotor

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tony Okocha has applauded the decision of the governor of Akwa Ibom State Pastor Umo Eno to dump the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

The Akwa Ibom State governor had on Friday, defected alongside local council chairmen from the PDP where he won his election to the APC.

Reacting to defection, Okocha through a statement by his Specual Assistant on Media, Vincent Gbosi, described the decision as a move in the right direction.

He said: “The defection of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC is a very wise decision, and a right step in the right direction.”

“With this move by His Excellency, Akwa Ibom State is now in the league of Progressive States in Nigeria.”

Okocha noted that the defection of Governor Eno alongside majority of members of the State Executive Council, the State House of Assembly, members of the National Assembly, and chairmen of the local government areas in the State underscores the fact that well meaning Nigerians were beginning to see the future of Nigeria to be on the right track under the APC-led Federal Government.

“It is getting clearer by the day, even to the doubting Thomas that with the futuristic policies and programs of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as encapsulated in the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President, the economy of Nigeria is on the path of transformation and recovery,” Okocha added.

The party chairman claimed what he termed the “Tinubu Tsunami of defections into the APC” that is sweeping across the country currently is an evidence of the confidence of well meaning Nigerians in the visionary leadership of the Mr President.

Okocha predicted that “As we inch closer to the 2027 Presidential Election, a gale of defections into the APC will be expected,” adding that the defection would herald the successful re-election of President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office in 2027.

He commended his colleague, the chairman of APC in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo for his effective leadership which aided the defection of the governor.

“I know, and you’ll agree with me that the defection of the State Governor to the APC is partly due to the hardwork, and the type of leadership provided by the APC Chairman of Akwa Ibom State, and you must give that to him,” Okocha stated.
