The Rivers State Government has put in place a high-level technical intervention committee to end the boundary dispute between Okoloma (Afam) community in Oyigbo and the Ban-Ogoi community in Tai Local Government Areas of the state.
Inaugurating the committee at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu charged the 13-member committee to interface and settle the long-standing territorial friction.
Odu, who is the Chairman of the State Boundary Commission, described the task as a delicate mission that requires courage and absolute objectivity.
She warned that the findings must be rooted in justice to ensure they stand the test of time.
The committee is tasked with reviewing valid historical records and legal submissions to determine the exact boundary line.
Odu noted that the state’s priority is to replace communal tension with a framework for harmonious coexistence.
Committee Chairman and Nye Nwe-Ali of Evo Kingdom, King Leslie Nyebuchi Eke accepted the mandate, promising that the panel would act with professional foresight.
He noted that the committee is determined to provide the clarity needed to foster mutual understanding between the two communities.
The members are expected to work under a strict timeline, with a final report and recommendations expected within 30 days.
