Rivers Govt Sets Committee to Resolve Oyigbo-Tai Border Conflict

The Rivers State Government has put in place a high-level technical intervention committee to end the boundary dispute between  Okoloma (Afam) community in Oyigbo and the Ban-Ogoi community in Tai Local Government Areas of the state.

‎Inaugurating the committee at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu charged the  13-member committee to interface and settle the long-standing territorial friction.

‎ Odu, who is the Chairman of the State Boundary Commission, described the task as a delicate mission that requires courage and absolute objectivity.

‎She warned that the findings must be rooted in justice to ensure they stand the test of time.

‎The committee is tasked with reviewing valid historical records and legal submissions to determine the exact boundary line.

‎Odu noted that the state’s priority is to replace communal tension with a framework for harmonious coexistence.

‎Committee Chairman and Nye Nwe-Ali of Evo Kingdom, King Leslie Nyebuchi Eke accepted the mandate, promising that the panel would act with professional foresight.

‎He noted that the committee is determined to provide the clarity needed to foster mutual understanding between the two communities.

‎The members are expected to work under a strict timeline, with a final report and recommendations expected within 30 days.
