The Chairman of Khana Local Government Council, Dr. Thomas Bariere Ariar, yesterday received 11-year-old Gbenemene Goodness Nornubari, an indigene of Kpaa community in Khana LGA, following his return from London, United Kingdom, where he represented Real Madrid Academy Port Harcourt in an international football competition.
Goodness was part of the Real Madrid Academy Port Harcourt squad that represented Nigeria at the competition, which featured young footballers from different countries. The Nigerian side emerged victorious in all four categories of the competition, while Goodness distinguished himself with an impressive performance and was awarded Most Valuable Player of the Match (MVP) after one of the games.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the presentation, one of the academy’s coaches, Lateh Gabriel, said the team visited the Chairman to appreciate his continued support for football development. He explained that the academy had the opportunity to travel to London for the competition and returned to Nigeria a few days ago.
According to him, Goodness, proudly represented the Real Madrid Academy Port Harcourt during the competition. He added that the chairman’s support for football and young talents made it important for them to pay him a visit and present a team jersey to him.
Goodness’ father, Mr. Lawrence Gbenemene, also joined his son in presenting the jersey to Dr. Thomas Bariere in appreciation of his support and encouragement for young football talents in Khana.
