Governorship Candidate of the Action Democratic Alliance (ADC) in Rivers State, Dr. Gabriel Pidomson has challenged the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to tell Rivers people what he intends to offer them ahead of the 2027 governorship election, accusing him of contesting for governor for a third term through a proxy without presenting a clear agenda for the state.
Pidomson spoke on Friday, while receiving members of the Rivers 24 group, led by Prof. David Ogbonna, on a courtesy visit to his campaign office in Port Harcourt.
Responding to Wike’s reported questioning of his capacity to contest, he insisted that the election should be decided by ideas, policies and solutions to the state’s challenges, not by rhetoric, intimidation and displays of influence. He challenged Wike to move beyond political attacks and explain what he and his preferred candidate would do differently.
The ADC candidate also accused Wike of relying on institutional influence and violence.
”No individual has a monopoly on violence,” he said, adding that all power belongs to God.
Pidomson further recalled his past relationship with Wike, reminding him that he played a strategic role during his 2019 election. He emphasized that his ‘capacity’ contributed to Wike’s successful re-election.
He maintained, however, that the issue is not about personalities but about leadership capable of delivering practical solutions to the problems of the state.
”The message I want you people to take out is that this is a time for change, a time in which the people who want to lead express their intentions to the people,” he said.
He stressed that his ambition was not driven by the hunger for the title of governor but by a commitment to solving the problems confronting Rivers State. According to him, the state needs more than promises and slogans, and its institutional challenges show a system in urgent need of restoration. Rebuilding, he said, requires a clear understanding of those challenges and a deliberate effort to restore the institutions and structures necessary for effective governance.
Pidomson named security, agriculture and education as the pillars of his proposed reset of the state. He explained that tackling insecurity, boosting agricultural productivity for jobs and food security, and improving education would lay the foundation for a safer, more productive and more prosperous Rivers State.
The ADC gubernatorial candidate urged the group to carry the message of change to the people and to promote informed choices and issue-based politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
Leader of the Rivers 24 Group, Prof. David Ogbonna on behalf of group declared their support for Dr. Pidomson and the ADC, and its readiness to align with the party’s vision for a new direction in Rivers State.
