The Rivers State Government has approved the immediate take-off of the Emouha campus of the Rivers State University.
The new campus is expected to take-off with two faculties.
Governor Nyesom Wike stated this at the 31st convocation ceremony of the University held at the weekend.
A total of 3,924 graduands were awarded First Degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctorate degrees during the convocation ceremony out of which 36 emerged with first class honours.
Wike, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo, explained that the Ahoada campus would follow as soon as the necessary infrastructure is put in place.
According to him: “I assure you that these campuses will be developed to international standards with all the faculties they require to deliver more career opportunities and quality education services to our state and country”.
“For the first time in our development we have devoted 18% of our budget to fund human capital development. We are therefore happy with today’s graduation ceremony which greatly signifies the results of our consistent and responsive investments in valuable human capital development for our state and nation”.
The governor charged the graduands to use their hardwork, excellence, creativity to bring good leadership to the society.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Blessing Didia thanked the visitor to the school, Nyesom Wike for supporting the school through funding and infrastructural development among which is the completion of the school of medical sciences.
The VC however, used the avenue to request for the establishment of a mega farm on the Onne campus and more accommodation for staffers on the main campus.
