Governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the just-concluded elections in Rivers State, Victor Fingesi, has said threats of dethroning traditional rulers over the rising insecurity in the state will not solve the problem.
PHspectator recalls that the State Governor, Nyesom Wike had during a recent meeting with traditional rulers in the state threatened to withdraw recognition from any chief that his community is found to be home of cultists.
Similarly, the governor also withdrew recognition of a first class traditional ruler in Ogoni over cult related activities.
Fingesi who spoke during the second anniversary of the ADP in Port Harcourt said that after the elections, hoodlums were having a field day in different parts of the State and that a lot of people have been kidnapped, murdered and ransom collected from the already impoverished people of the state.
He said tackling insecurity is not what should be left in the hands of the local governments only and not even the threat of removing traditional rulers could address it.
Fingesi advised the Rivers State government to convoke a non-partisan security summit of Rivers people and stakeholders to come up with the necessary panacea to contain the situation.
He further advised the State governor, Nyesom Wike, not to play politics with security as it does not benefit anybody.
On the flood ravaging the state, Fingesi advised the state government to be decisive and make way for drainage routes, adding that buildings blocking the drainage routes should be made to go down to save the state from embarrassment.
The Guber candidate also said no part of the state capital is free from flood including the Government Reserved Areas (GRA).
He said he is willing to offer the Rivers State government ideas on how to address the ugly situation in the state.
