: Ex-NDDC boss, Nunieh testifies before Reps committee via zoom

The former Acting Managing Director of the Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Joi Nunieh, has testified before the investigating hearing of the House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta Affairs investigating mismanagement of funds in the commission.

The former MD was schedule to appear before the committee on Thursday but was prevented as her house in Port Harcourt was invaded  by the Police.

She spoke to the committee via zoom.

Nunieh  accused the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio of pressuring her to convert all dollar denominations in NDDC account to Naira and to give indigenes of Akwa-Ibom states double promotions.

She also said that the Minister wanted her to give employment opportunities to people outside the region, adding that Sen. Akpabio asked her to indict Senator Peter Nwaboshi as the owner of 98 companies working as contractors for the NDDC.

“Mr. Akpabio was angry that I did not promote the junior staff from Akwa-Ibom. I am representing Rivers State, I cannot do double promotion for junior staff.

“On the issue of employment, he collected names from godfathers, and I said I will not be the one to give employment to people outside the Niger Delta, when our people have no jobs.

He said that I am annoyed for being removed, am I annoyed? No, I am living for the past 7 months. I was the most hated MD of the Niger Delta. Staff were jubilating when I was removed, because I did not allow anyone to take the people’s money.”
