NPA warehouse collapse kills five in Rivers

Five persons have been confirmed dead after a warehouse in Area A of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in Port Harcourt collapsed, on Saturday.

The incident, which was said to have occurred at about 5:00pm, was said to have caused confusion within the NPA in the Rivers State, even as it was learnt that the warehouse was an old facility used in storing Dangote Salt.

An NPA worker disclosed that five persons were found in the rubble after a search was conducted, few minutes after the collapse.

“It happened on (Saturday) around 5:00pm and five persons, who were trapped in the rubble, were found dead,” an eye witness said.

Another NPA worker in Area A, however, said those affected as a result of the incident were not inside the warehouse when the walls caved in, adding that the walls affected the bathroom and toilet close to the warehouse.

“Those that died were around the bathroom and toilet area and the walls that fell affected them. Their bodies were found when the people began to open up blocks and search inside the rubbles,” he said.
