Rivers PWDs threaten to block LG councils

Persons living with disabilities in Rivers State have threatened to unleash violent protests across the 23 local government areas in the state if they are not being catered for by the authorities.

A threat issued by their union, the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, JONAPDS, said they will block all the LGAs of the state.

Chatting with our source, the state chairman of the physically challenged community, Peter Job-Wota said, “this time around, it is either they employ us or face violent protest.

“We are planning a mass violent protest that will take place simultaneously across the 23 LGAs of the state.

“We have started raising funds for logistics and we are negotiating with commercial bus unions to enable our to and fro movements.

“Since they don’t want to employ us and they are waiting for us to keep begging them, we will block everywhere and wait for them to kill all of us or give us employment by force.”

When asked the number of employment slots they wanted, Job-Wota said they want each LGA to employ a minimum of 100 persons to cover for the decades of neglect they have suffered.

“We were waiting for April 17, 2021, when elected LG chairmen will be sworn in and now that they have been inaugurated, we will start writing them.

“We will give an ultimatum to the chairmen, and any LGA that undermines our demand will be severely dealt with, “Job-Wota said
