Court declares PDP caretaker committee illegal

By: Our correspondent

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has taken another twist with a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Monday declaring the newly constituted caretaker committee of the party illegal.

Justice Ibrahim Buba who made the pronouncement directed the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to enforce the order by ensuring that the newly constituted members of the committee do not take over the position of the party’s acting National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

It would be recalled that the party had on Saturday sacked Sheriff and constituted a caretaker committee headed by a former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi during its National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

On same day another faction held a parallel convention in Abuja were Jerry Gana was appointed as caretaker committee leader.

The party had also mandated the committee to elect a new National Working Committee, NWC, within three months.
