Lawmaker distances self from suspected killer of 400-level RSU student

By: Felix Ikpotor

Prince Ngbor Piccolo, the lawmaker representing Khana constituency2 in Rivers State House of Assembly, RVHA, has denied any blood relationship with one Wisdom Nwiyaara, suspected killer of Derrick Ozondu, a 400-level mechanical engineering student of the Rivers State University, RSU.

Ozondu was shot at close range by Wisdom on Thursday at the faculty of management sciences building in the school.

The suspect and victim were said to be members of rival  cult gangs fighting for supremacy on the campus.

Wisdom is currently in police custody while Derrick’s corpse has been deposited in an undisclosed mortuary while investigations continue, Rivers State Police Command said.

The lawmaker’s reaction followed a series of social media comments linking him with the suspected murderer.

In a statement by his Special Assistant, Marvin Kpea-ue, the lawmaker said the suspect is neither his son, grandson, step-son nor nephew.

Kpea-ue in the statement said “It is necessary and essentially imperative to state categorically and in clear terms here and now, that Mr. Wisdom Nwiyaara, the apprehended student who allegedly shot the deceased is not the son, grandson, step son, cousin or nephew of the most revered Sir (Hon.), Prince Lezina Ngbor, Knight of John Wesley, the most reputable award in Methodist Church, and Member Representing Khana Constituency II in Rivers State House of Assembly. It is also important to note that Sir, Prince Ngbor represents Nyor-Khana district in Khana LGA, while the said wisdom is from Eweh in Ken-Khana District of a different constituency in the same LGA.

This medium is therefore used to advise the general public to disregard the lies peddled on social media platforms by agents of false news and rumour mongers, connecting the apprehended student to the amiable lawmaker. It is a white lie from the pit of hell, and has no atom of truth embedded therein”.

The lawmaker used the medium to commiserate with the family of the slain student and the university community.
