Police rescue kidnap victim from forest in Rivers

… As NSCDC parades 6 suspected oil thieves

Rivers State Police Command has rescued one Enyindah Lawson-Ndu who was kidnapped at Elelenwo community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State last week Thursday.

Public Relations Officer of the Command, Nnamdi Omoni, who disclosed this in a statement, said the victim was rescued in a forest in Kono-Boue in Khana Local Government Area of the state while operatives of the command were in search of the hoodlums, who had killed three persons in the area.

Omoni said they ran into Lawson-Ndu where he was tied and kept and immediately “rescued him and sent him for medical attention”.

The spokesman also disclosed that investigation into the killing of about three people in Kono-Boue on Tuesday has commenced in compliance with “the directive of the commissioner of police”, Friday Eboka.

The statement named those killed in Kono-Boue as “Namene Kialede (30) Mueka Ikara (42) and Kingsley Kponee”.

While acknowledging that no arrest has been made on the killing, the police spokesman assured that efforts “are seriously on to arrest the perpetrators”.

Similarly, the Rivers State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has paraded six suspected oil thieves and a barge containing 28 compartments filled with Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) otherwise known as diesel.

The barge with name, Mr Eucharia II, according to the command, sailed from the direction of Bille and was arrested by men of the command at Agip jetty, off Eagle Island, Port Harcourt.

While speaking to newsmen during the parade, Public Relations Officer of the command, Oguntuase Michael , said that the anti-vandal team of the NSCDC carried out the arrest of the barge and vandals based on intelligence.

According to him, “On 20th August, 2021, the Anti-vandal Team of the NSCDC Rivers State Command, following received intelligence at about 0850hrs, arrested 6 suspected oil thieves with a black barge by name, Mr Eucharia, along Agip Jetty, off Eagle Island road, Obio/Akpor LGA.

“The barge contains 28 compartments. Out of which 12 are filled with suspected Adulterated Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).”

He said that an investigation has been launched to apprehend culprits involved in the crime for possible prosecution.

The NSCDC spokesperson stressed on the outfit’s position to curb the continuous destruction of the nation’s asset by unpatriotic citizens.
