Stop patronizing roadside gin, wine sellers– Police

Rivers State Police Command has warned residents to desist from purchasing gin and wine products from roadside petty sellers as most of them retail unhealthy alcoholic drinks produced by illegal manufacturers, and which are dangerous to public health.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Nnamdi Omoni, who gave the admonition while parading two suspects, Akhayera Collins and Christain John, allegedly involved in the illegal manufacturing of alcoholic drinks in the Eliogbolo axis of Port Harcourt, advised residents to rather patronize wine shops if they must indulge.

Omoni disclosed that items recovered from the suspects include assorted fake wines, spirit and several alcoholic beverages, as well as empty bottles waiting to be filled with the poisonous substance.

He said the suspects have made useful confessions and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

Speaking to newsmen, the suspects narrated the process of producing the drinks and how they were arrested by the police.

Omoni stated that Operatives of Puff Adder Unit of the command led by Commander, SP Noble Ueoh, acting on credible information, had on October 22, 2021 stormed a hideout at Eliogbolo Road, near Rumuokoro, where the fake drinks were being manufactured.
