RSU VC tasks youths on commitment, hardwork

Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University, RSU, Prof Nlerum Sunday Okogbule has tasked youths on commitment, dedication and hard work for the development of themselves and their respective communities.

Okogbule gave the advice in his office during a courtesy visit on him by members of EMOLGA Journalists Association Worldwide where he was also honoured with an Exemplary Leadership Award.

The VC advised youths especially in Emohua LGA to eschew violence, cultism and all crime related activities, stressing that crime especially cultism is inimical to the development of youths and the community.

He thanked the EMOLGA Journalists Association for the award on him and lauded their selfless services to humanity as well as their support for the development and changing the narratives of Emohua local government council.

He said his administration is committed to the development of the Rivers State University, sustaining and improving academic excellence in the institution.

Earlier in his address, Chairman, EMOLGA Journalists Association, Kennedy Wedeh commended Prof Okogbule for his efforts in repositioning and moving the University forward.

He said the essence of the visit was to intimate the VC on the existence of the body which according to him is saddled with the responsibility of rendering selfless services to humanity, promoting and projecting the image of Emohua Local government area, protecting their cultural heritage, eradicating communal sentiments among the people, encourage youth education as well as supporting good governance and strengthening democracy with the power of the pen, for the progress and development of the LGA.

He said the Prof. Okogbule was honoured with Exemplary Leadership Award in recognition of his contributions in human capital/community development, youth empowerment and dedication and commitment in giving the Rivers State University a facelift, which has earned the institution a global recognition recently.

“The Rivers State University no doubt since your assumption of office last year as the Vice Chancellor has witnessed rapid Infrastructural development and academic excellence. Most recently was the UNIVERSITY OF THE YEAR Award by MONTREAL, a Canadian based International Achievements Research Center (IARC), (after recently been ranked among the best 6 Universities in Nigerian by the Nigerian University Commission, NUC), and the approval of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery MBBS degree programme for newly established RSU’s College of Medical Sciences by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), to mention but a few.

“The global recognition on RSU and other achievements recorded so far shows the level of progress the institution has made since you assumed Office as the VC. Sir, we are proud to say that you are flying the banner of Rumuekpe and Emohua local government area in RSU, Rivers State, Nigeria and the world at large as a worthy ambassador. This will continue to stand as an eloquent testimony to the generation yet unborn”, he said.
