Monarch sets up taskforce on illegal street trading

Following the directive by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, the paramount ruler of Rumuogba community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, HRH Eze Temple  Ejekwu, has inaugurated a 10-man task force to rid the Rumuogba Flyover and its environs of illegal street trading activities.

The directives was given by the state governor in broadcast early this month.

Ejekwu inaugurated the ten man task force committee at his palace in Rumuogba, last weekend.

While inaugurating the committee, the monarch charged them to arrest and prosecute anyone trading illegally at the newly commissioned flyover.

“Arrest and  prosecute those bent on defacing the newly constructed fly over and stop all forms of illicit trading under the flyover”, he said .

The Eze Ogba Iji Nu Ede also warned that collecting all forms of monies from vendors to trade under the bridge should desist forthwith or offenders would face the law.

He also warned a popular hotelier in the area to stop his hotel from being used for the purposes of commercial sex as such was not in consonance with the provisions of the law.

The Monarch further urged the task force members to go after girls loitering around the hotel at night or face total shut down.

On his part, the chairman of the task force, Mr Innocent Igweh, promised to work assiduously with his members to ensure illegal trading became a thing of the past in the area.

The community was among the ones listed by Governor Wike as those involved in illegal trading.
