Cult clashes consumes 4 in Bayelsa

No less than three persons have reportedly been killed following clashes involving rival cults in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

It was gathered that three persons were killed around Obele Street along Arietalin Road in Ovom suburb after a crossfire ensued between the cult groups.

While one person was said to have been killed along Osiri Road in the Ekeki area on Saturday, the fights were said to have unsettled residents of the affected areas.

The cult clashes which is between suspected members of the Deywell and Bobos groups are believed to be caused by disagreement over the sharing formula of money released to them by a politician in Yenagoa, the state capital.

Confirming the incident, the state Police spokesperson, Asinim Butswat, said four suspects have been arrested in connection to the killings, while an investigation was ongoing.

However, in contrast to the number of casualties, Butswat said only two casualties were recorded.

According to him, “The bodies our men saw and took to the mortuary were two. But we have arrested four persons.”
