FCT minister: Abuja indigenes reject Wike as IYC kicks

Abuja Chapter of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, has taken a swipe at some youths of Abuja who are rejecting the appointment of former Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State as FCT minister.

Under the aegis of the Inhabitant Youth and Development of Abuja, the group said Wike should not be a minister of FCT because he did not hail from Abuja.

But reacting to the call for Wike’s rejection, the Chairman of IYC, Abuja Chapter, Adam Marbo described such agitation as sentimental and a waste of time.

Marbo said, “I am aware that there are some people who are agitating. They called themselves the inhabitant youth and development of Abuja.

“The group said it will not allow a non-Abuja indigene to be the FCT minister. But I believe Abuja is a federal capital territory that belongs to every citizen of Nigeria.

“I don’t think the agitation will hold water because what Abuja wants is development and if the person that is appointed as FCT minister has the needed capacity, then there is no need for segregation.

“For me, I think former governor Wike has the capacity to deliver the expectation of the people of the federal capital territory.”

Meanwhile, Wike has Monday, assumed office as FCT minister.
