Rivers PDP not advancing ethnic interest – Chairman

…As Appeal Court affirms Fubara’s victory

Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Chukwuemeka Aaron, has said that the party is not working to advance the interest of any ethnic group in the state.

Aaron, while speaking in Port Harcourt during his officiual takeover from the former chairmsn, Desmond Akawor, said those who worked against Governor Siminialayi Fubara during the election are now trying to come through the back door to cause problems in the party, noting that their plans will fail.

He said peace would reign in the party and warned such persons to desist from their evil plan for the interest of the state.

The State PDP Chairman also called on party members in the state to back Fubara so that he could succeed.

Meanwhile, an Appeal Court sitting in Lagos State on Tuesday, dismissed the petition filed by Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress, APC, against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Cole had wanted the Appeal Court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to declare him the winner of the March governorship election.

He told the court that Fubara was still signing documents as Accountant-General of the State even after his nomination as the governorship candidate of the PDP.

He also alleged irregularities in the election, among other issues.

Recall that the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had in October dismissed the petition, on the grounds that the APC that sponsored Tonye Cole for the election had withdrawn the petition against Fubara’s victory.

Cole, who was not satisfied with the Tribunal’s judgment, approached the appellate court.
