The Rivers State Police Command said it has granted approval to an international technology firm, Baker Hughes Company Limited, to render and destroy some explosive materials in its custody, which had been examined by relevant experts and found to have expired.
The Police said the exercise would be conducted by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of the command in Kporghor community, Tai Local Council of the state.
It also urged the people not be scared at the sound of heavy explosives in the area.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement, said the exercise is slated to begin on Tuesday, March 12 and would last four days.
Iringe-Koko also disclosed that the operation would begin each day at 9am, adding that strict precautionary measures had been put in place to avert any possible accidents during the exercise.
She said, “The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that approval has been granted to Baker Hughes Company Limited to render and destroy some explosive materials in its custody, which have been examined by relevant experts and found to have expired.
“This exercise will be carried out from Tuesday, 12th March, to Friday, 15th March 2024, by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) of the command, starting at 0900hrs daily, at Kporghor Community in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.
“The general public and indeed residents of Kporghor Community are hereby enjoined not to panic if they hear deafening loud sounds emanating from the exercise, as every precautionary measure has been put in place to avert any danger.”
