Jumbo disowns statement by factional Rivers NYCN chairman

The Gift Jumbo-led faction of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in Rivers State has disowned statements credited to Comrade Ambrose Okporconcerning Federal Government surveillance reforms.

‎Comrade Ambrose Okpor, is also laying claims to the chairmanship of NYCN in the state.

‎Gift Jumbo said in a statement that she remains the duly recognized and authentic Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in the state, asserting, “My leadership remains valid, legitimate, and in full effect until the expiration of my tenure in 2027”.

‎She said the activities of the Okpor-led faction are unauthorized, unrecognized, and do not represent the voice, position, or structure of the NYCN at any level.

‎”The NYCN, under my leadership, remains committed to promoting unity among Nigerian youths, supporting progressive government policies that benefit young people, engaging constructively on national issues, including security and surveillance reform, ” she stated.

‎She regretted that the youth council has been highjacked and politicised by politicians which she said is responsible for the factionalisation of the body.

‎Jumbo urged the general public, stakeholders, government agencies, and the media to disregard any statements not emanating from her office or the officially recognized channels of the NYCN.

‎”We will not allow illegitimate groups to create confusion or derail the collective progress of Nigerian youths,” she maintained.
