Indications have emerged that all is not well between the family of late literary icon, Captain Elechi Amadi and the Rivers State Government over roles in the burial of the Aluu-born writer.
Just yesterday, the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike inaugurated a committee with the charge to give the renowned author a state burial.
The committee is headed by Frank Awhor with other notable Rivers sons and daughters as members.
But sources in the community say the bereaved family is strongly opposing the governor’s move to give the deceased a state burial.
We gathered the family’s spokesperson has rejected whatever plans the government is putting in place for the burial.
Phspectator recalls that the controversy over who handles the burial rites of the Elder-statesman started immediately after his death when the governor and his predecessor now Transport Minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi during their condolence visits promised separately to bankroll the burial rites of the deceased.
