Barely a few days after the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike sacked four commissioners in the state including two Ogonis, a group, Ogoni Generation Next Project, OGNP, has criticized the action and called on the governor to provide explanations for his decision.
Facilitator of the group, Comr. Kadilo Kabari stated this Monday, via a statement made available to newsmen.
Kabari described Wike’s action as an act of victimization against the Ogonis in his cabinet.
The statement reads: “We are indeed worried by the penchant of Governor Wike to spoil the good name of Ogoni people within and outside his government. For crying out loud, in every suspension or denial gestures done by this administration, Ogoni people are always included, always at the receiving end.
“What did Fred Kpakol do? What did John Bazia do? Why has Prof. Kinanee not been confirmed like others? Why the emptiness in the office of the SSG? We’re beginning to see the truth in the rumour that Governor Wike’s appointees are coerced to stop Magnus Abe at all cost or be kicked out of office. This is sad, this is pathetic, this is witch-hunting. Ogoni people cannot be instigated to fight one another.
“If the governor is transparent and there is indeed freedom of information, then we demand reasons for the frequent suspension of Ogoni people within his government. The positions Ogonis occupy in his administration is a right and not a privilege. The PDP government has seen the determination of Ogoni people to stand by their own and reward the party that loves Ogoni in the forthcoming polls.”
Recalled that Fred Kpakol, John Bazia and two other commissioners were suspeneded lastweek alongside the Head of Service and a special adviser by the state governor.
