PDP says Dariye’s defection to APC is criminal, unconstitutional

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Plateau said the recent defection of Sen. Joshua Dariye to the All Progressives Congress, APC, was criminal.

Chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Damishi Sango, stated this while addressing newsmen on Friday in Jos.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, recalls that Dariye in a letter to the Senate, read by President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, at plenary few weeks ago, announced his defection to the APC.

Sango said that the movement of Dariye from PDP to APC was unconstitutional.

“It is criminal to carry the mandate of a party to another party.

“So, Dariye’s defection from PDP to APC is not only criminal, but unconstitutional.

“Dariye rode on PDP’s back to become a senator, but he worked for the APC during the last general elections.

“All this while, we knew he is PDP in the day time, but APC at night; so, we were not surprised when he defected,” he said.

Sango said that PDP would take legal actions if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not declare Dariye’s seat vacant.
