Why I snubbed Enyeama – Rohr

Head coach of the Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has said that Vincent Enyeama is not in his plans, because his confidence has dropped.

Rohr is still searching for a replacement for first-choice goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, who has been diagnosed with leukaemia.

Ikeme became Nigeria’s favourite after Enyeama retired from the national team.

The German suggested that Enyeama, who has been asked to leave Ligue 1 outfit Lille, is not one of the names he is considering.

Speaking in an interview with SportingLife, he said the selection of a first-choice goalkeeper against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, would depend on the recommendation of the new Eagles goalkeeper trainer.

“I want the best for the Eagles and my target is to qualify for the Russia 2018 World Cup.

“Cameroon is a very good side and I want the best for the match. I want a goalkeeper with 100% confidence. A keeper that can take charge and control his defence.

“I am also happy that since I joined the camp in Kano, the players have improve their games. I have told them that their getting a jersey would depend how they perform against Benin Republic in a CHAN qualifier billed for next weekend,” Rohr said.

He added: “I speak with, Mikel Obi daily and I am happy that he has returned to full training. I monitor other Nigerian players playing in China.”
