Rivers LG boss promises to ensure power supply

Mr Rowland Sekibo, Chairman, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers, on Wednesday said that the council was working to restore power supply to residents.

Sekibo told newsmen during an inspection tour to ascertain the level of work done on a damaged 5MVA transformer in Abonnema, the headquarters of the council.

He noted that electricity was one of the basic social amenities in every society and as a democratically elected chairman, he was conscious of the plight of the people as a result of the blackout.

“Few days after my swearing-in as the executive chairman, I declared operation zero blackout by revitalising street lights in the headquarters to help reduce crime and criminality.

“I am working tirelessly to proffer lasting solution to electrical issues that my administration inherited and pretty soon, we shall restore power supply.

“The damaged 5MVA transformer as a result of high voltage will be replaced with a brand new 15MVA transformer,” he said.

The chairman appealed for calm as he was determined to bring dividends of democracy to all and sundry.
