Just a few days after he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, a former Governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau picked up nomination forms, to contest for a senatorial ticket under the platform of his new party.
This was confirmed by Salihu Tanko Yakasai, a media aide to the incumbent Kano Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje on Tuesday.
Yakasai posted an image of Shekarau posing with the forms on his Twitter page and wrote: “H.E Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau former Governor of Kano State has picked up the Senate Nomination Form for Kano Central Zone under the APC today.
“He will be replacing the former Gov of Kano and soon to be one term Senator, Kwankwaso in the forthcoming 2019 elections. Aiki dai.”
Shekarau only joined the ruling party last Saturday, a day after Adams Oshiomhole, chairman of the APC and Ganduje met with him at his residence.
The former governor told his supporters that he left the opposition party because they gave Rabiu Kwankwaso an edge over Kano PDP leaders after he defected from the APC.
