Rivers 2019: APC needs everyone on board to win-Abe

By: Felix Ikpotor

The senator representing Rivers South East in the National Assembly, Magnus Ngei Abe has said  that it’s high time every member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State unite and safe the party from imminent defeat in 2019.

Abe who was speaking on a radio programme Thursday, in Port Harcourt said the party needs everyone on board to win the forthcoming elections.

While describing the current situation of the party as a disgrace, he said there are still legal openings for the party to explore.

Abe who is a frontline governorship aspirant on the platform of the party said, “There are still legal channels open to us within the party to try to get a favourable pronouncement from the court. But what I’m saying is that going in pursuit of that should also go hand in hand with our desire and the need for us to put the APC back as a fighting political machine that can actually deliver on the expectation of each member and the public in Rivers State, and to do that we have to try to take steps to restore respect for one another within the party.”

The lawmaker insisted that the only legal thing done by the party was the direct primaries conducted by the Chief Peter Odike led faction.

However, Mr. Tonye Cole has insisted that he remains the flag-bearer of the party in Rivers State and as such would go ahead with his campaign despite the court ruling.

Cole while reacting to the judgment by a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt on Monday which barred the party from fielding candidates in the elections, said the party has already taken steps to appeal the judgment which annulled both the direct and indirect primaries conducted by the party.

“There is a fundamental basis in the matter. Those things which could have made us to win have not been addressed and those are the things we are looking at,”  Cole said.
