Soldiers death: They were not killed in my community- Monarch

Contrary to news making the rounds that a major and a soldier were killed in Rivers State on Thursday where attacked at Abonnema, Headquarters of Akuku-Toru local government area, the Amanyanabo of Abonnema, King Disreal Gbobo-Bobmanuel has come out to say that no soldier was killed in his domain.

King Bobmanuel who made the clarification in a statement said it became necessary to clear the air ahead of tomorrow’s National and State Assembly elections.

The monarch said the soldiers were attacked on the waterways and not in Abonnema as its been peddled in some quarters.

The Kalabari monarch however, sympathized with the army and also condemned the killings.

Similarly, A Niger Delta activist, Ankio Briggs has joined in denying that soldiers were killed in the area.

Ankio Briggs who hails from Abonnema said she has been in touch with her home town and they confirmed that nothing of such nature happened.

She said the clarification became necessary to avoid army invasion of the community, sighting Odi in Bayelsa and Gbaramatu kingdom in Delta State.

Meanwhile, the army in Port Harcourt has confirmed that there men were attacked by suspected sea pirates at Bille in Degema local government area of the state.

The Army 2 Brigade Public Relations Officer, Capt. Eli Lazarus in a statement confirmed the incidence but said the army is going after the culprits.
