A woman met her sad end yesterday afternoon at the Jere area of Kaduna State when an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly shot her.
The agent reportedly killed her in error, as the person he was targeting narrowly escaped.
An eye witness said, “The woman was not their target. The security men flagged down a vehicle, and the driver refused to stop.”
“Immediately they opened fire and a stray bullet hit a woman in a commercial vehicle nearby,” the witness said.
“The woman died on the spot and her five children who were in the bus with her wept uncontrollably.
“Her corpse was taken to the Toll Gate at Kakau/Sabon Gayan community. The people who saw the corpse were enraged, and this triggered protests”, he added.
Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Ibrahim, who confirmed the incidence said the operative had been arrested and appealed to residents to remain calm.
