Rivers APC will bounce back – Nwielaghi

A University don and chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Dr. Mike Nwielaghi has assured that the party will bounce back stronger and united to take over power in the state.

Dr. Nwielaghi in an exclusive interview with PHSpectator in Port Harcourt regretted the crisis that stopped the party from participating in the 2019 general elections in the state, stressing that efforts are on to reconcile leader of the party in the state and Minister for Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi and other stakeholders  in order to form a formidable opposition in the next elections.

“Firstly, we are trying to unite the leader of the party in Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to fight for a common front for the party. It is unfortunate that we did not participate in the general elections due to power intrigues with the leadership of the party. For now, we are shifting the shaft from the corn. We shall be organizing ward, local government and state congresses.

“We are also expecting the National Caretaker Committee led by the Acting National Chairman of the party, Governor Buni of Yobe State. So that’s where we are now. We are looking forward to the party at the national to put things in proper perspectives. I will also like the national to come and mediate in the crisis rocking the party”.

The erstwhile state chairman of the defunct CPC went on to say, “Yes, we have been out of government in the state and you know that the distribution of power is the state. We are not governor, no senators, no House of Reps, no Assembly member, Council Chairmen, Councilors, nothing. There are plenty of regrets.

“In my own little way, I am making efforts to see that there is genuine reconciliation in the party in the state. I have spoken to couple of leaders and stakeholders in the party and each time I’m being assured that efforts are on the way to mend fences and bring feuding parties together. They have also assured me that a credible congress would hold in the state that will accommodate everybody’s interest. They have also urged party faithful to be ready to lay down the hatchet. So I believe that something good is coming up soon to take us further with great determination.

He used the medium to call on factional chairmen of the party in the state, Isaac Ogbobula and Hon. Igo Aguma to embrace peace for the interest of the party.

“They should lay down the hatchet if they are sincere for us to move the party forward. For us to build the party, we must avoid the divide and rule tactics of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. We should be a formidable opposition.

“Everyone should have their integrity intact. I don’t believe that someone will be saying it is Governor Wike that is doing this or that, no; we should have our integrity intact, period. Personal ambition is killing the party”.
