Police brutality returns as officer kill keke operator in Rivers

Tricycle operators popularly known as ‘Keke’ and angry mob   blocked  the Mgbuchi area of Rukpoku in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers over the killing of their colleague by a police officer from the Rumuokoro Police station early Thursday morning.

Eyewitnesses said the policemen ran away after an officer from the team shot the Keke Operator.

The incident is happening while the various state panels of inquiry into police brutality including that of Rivers State was still ongoing.  

It was gathered that the deceased simply identified as School Boy was shot dead for refusing to give the officer N100 bribe.

The  Rukpokwu junction was also blocked as the mob set fire on tires, leading to heavy traffic on the road.

Colleagues of the deceased carried his remains  to the police station but encountered heavy shootings from the officers there.

It was gathered that the police also shot two other persons on the leg who were subsequently evacuated to the hospital.

 the Keke Operators dumped the body of deceased in front of the police station.

Attempts to reach the State Police Command on the situation was not successful at the time of this report.
