By: Felix Ikpotor

It’s eleven days today (Wednesday) since two prominent sons of Andoni local government area of Rivers State were carried away by men of the underworld.

Dr. Jones Ayuwu, a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt was abducted on Sunday, 21st February, 2021 around Bori while returning from Andoni where he had gone to participate in the translation of the Obolo Bible, same day HRH, King Aaron Ikuru, the Okan-Ama of Ikuru Town was also kidnapped at his hometown.

Till date, no one has heard anything from their abductors. The Rivers State government has not commented on the matter while  the State Police Command has not issued any statement on efforts to release the duo.

Several efforts by this publication to get the reaction of the management of UNIPORT on the matter has yielded no fruit as the school’s imagemaker, Mr Sam Kpenu has not replied to messages forwarded to him.

The abduction of the duo had sparked controversy in the area with the Ijaw Youth Council, Andoni chapter accusing the council chairman, Paul Lawrence of being responsible for the act and issuing him with an ultimatum to release them.

An allegation that the council boss has long refuted and insisted that his administration has restored peace in the LGA.
