Heavy shooting as computer dealers, hoodlums clash over extortion in Rivers

By: Admin

There was pandemonium in the Ogbunabali axis of Port Harcourt as computer dealers at the Garrison junction axis of the area, on Wednesday evening, went on rampage, burning tyres in protest of a weekly security levy imposed on them by suspected cultists.

The traders who decried extortion by the said cultists said they were forced to pay N600,000 a week ago only for the boys to return yesterday demanding more.

When the traders refused to attend to them, the boys reportedly carted away computer parts and gadgets worth millions of naira.

A resident, Atat Charles, said the aggrieved traders mobilized themselves at about 6 PM on Wednesday, burning tyres and wood as they confronted the suspects who had reportedly returned to demand a fresh payment.

Another source alleged that the traders had entered into a bargain with the boys to prevent them from harrassing them and their clients during work hours.

Meanwhile, Charles said: “I witnessed heavy shooting as by 6 PM at Aguma junction in Garrison. When everywhere seemed safe, I stepped out to inquire from eye witnesses the cause of the shooting only to see that they have blocked major entries into the area with tyres and wood saying unknown cult boys controlling the area had come to request again for their weekly settlement after they paid them about N600,000 last week.”

“When the traders rejected to pay the boys today they used force and absconded with gadgets worth millions of naira.”

Sampson, another resident, said the incident caused commotion along Aguma and Agudama streets of Ogbunabali as the police gave the fleeing suspects a heated chase.
